In a factory sewing harnesses time was lost due to the need for frequent changeovers of fabric binder strips on the sewing machines, which also created a high degree of waste. We were asked if we could find a way to reduce both. This involved a detailed examination of the production processes in the factory, during which we identified ways in which, by changing the form of supply of the fabric strips delivered to the factory, the process could be streamlined.
We already made unreinforced tape supplied in rolls and were therefore able to easily develop a fabric reinforced version to suit the customer’s application. Furthermore we were able to supply the tape cut to an appropriate width and length.
The result of this has been significant cost savings as a result of reduced waste and changeover time, plus, the new tape had the added benefit of improving the quality of the harnesses produced.
